Beit Matar was built in 1886 by an Abilamaa Emir — a house of stature, crafted in the mountain tradition of hand-cut stone, soaring vaulted ceilings, and arched windows that frame the valley like paintings.
The Aoun family have called it their own since 1965. For decades it stood as a cherished family home, quietly holding its memories within walls that have witnessed generations come and go.
In 2018, Albert Aoun undertook a meticulous restoration — not to reinvent the house, but to honour it. Every original stone was preserved. Every arch was restored. What was added — the curated antiques, the fine linens, the contemporary touches — was chosen to complement the soul of the house, never to overshadow it.
Today, Beit Matar opens its doors to guests who appreciate the rare: a place where history is not decorative, but lived-in.

Start your morning the way it was meant to be spent — slowly. Organic local labneh, hand-pressed wild zaatar oil, freshly prepared eggs, and seasonal produce from nearby farms, served beneath the open sky of our garden terrace.
Step into the heart of Beit Matar’s living spaces — a grand main salon framed by historic Lebanese trifore doors that open onto a traditional Lebanese balcony. The salon flows naturally into a dining room bathed in light from two balconies, and is served by a fully fitted kitchen — everything your group needs to gather, cook, and linger together.
Perched above the main salon and looking down over it, the Upper Lounge is Beit Matar’s quiet escape — a relaxed sitting area fitted with comfortable sofas and a TV, perfect for unwinding after a day in the mountains. It’s the kind of space you sink into and don’t want to leave.
At the heart of Beit Matar lies a space unlike any other — a vaulted stone lounge where 19th-century cross-vaulted ceilings and hand-cut stone walls create an atmosphere of quiet grandeur. Gather here to unwind, share a meal, or settle in by the fireplace as the mountain evening draws in.
Step outside the Arcade and into a lush garden shaded by ancient Azedarach and Tilia trees. A fully equipped bar, open skies, and the gentle sounds of a Lebanese mountain village — the perfect setting for a slow afternoon or an evening under the stars.
When the mood calls for something different, The Silk Valley Resort is just moments away. Enjoy Italian and international cuisine, bar service, and afternoon tea in a setting that complements the tranquility of your stay at Beit Matar.
Arbanieh and its surroundings reward the curious. Hike through pine forest trails, wander the village lanes, and venture to nearby treasures — the historic village of Salima, the artisan village of Qsaibeh with its traditional Carob Molasse workshops, and the serene Santa Veronica Juliani Monastery.
Throughout Beit Matar, carefully curated contemporary fine art panels sit in quiet conversation with the hand-cut stone of the original 1886 structure — a reminder that beauty has no single era.
Beit Matar is available exclusively as a full house booking — all five rooms, entirely yours. No other guests, no shared spaces, no interruptions. Just your group, the mountains, and the unhurried rhythm of Arbanieh.
